Future-Proof Church”
The church is ever future-ready because we live by this unchanging truth: God knows the future & He has revealed it to us and our children.
How do you see the current season? Is it a half-full or half-empty cup? We appreciate the government’s efforts to help us be future-ready as the pandemic turns endemic. We endeavour to make plans to future-proof our family, businesses and Church. But really, no one knows what tomorrow holds except God.
God knows the future because He is God. He is the One “declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient things not yet done. He has spoken and He will bring it to pass” (Isaiah 46:9-11). He is never wrong or late!
God reveals the future to us. He promises: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law” Deut 29:29 ESV.
God has revealed many future events to us in the bible. We've a compass; we're never lost! We have the Spirit of Truth who quickens the Word in us. He opens our spiritual understanding to see more clearly who God is and why events take place.
These “revealed things” belong to us. We’re responsible for them. Our choices for today and tomorrow must be based on God's word and led by the Spirit. We must not live as we wish.
Further, the “revealed things” belong to our children. Let us impress God's word into our children. Let us make God-honouring plans. In this way, we and our children, and the future generation will always serve the LORD GOD.
The “secret things” – things not revealed, belong to God. A clear example is Christ’s second return. No one knows that day or that hour... only the Father (Mark 13:32). But we’re exhorted to watch and pray (Mark 14:38).
Friends, we need not feel vexed or fearful about the future. Instead,
-
Stay Optimistic: “Straighten up and raise our heads, because our redemption is drawing near” (Luke 21:28).
-
Stay Committed: “Offer ourselves freely on the day of His power...” (Psalms 110:3).
-
Stay Unshakeable: We have a “kingdom that cannot be shaken...” (Hebrews 12:28-29).
